Why companies should use blogs

Can you lose your job because of your blog?

The answer is yes, but not because you have a blog. Instead, you can get into trouble because of the contents you put on this blog. There is a great deal of confusion in the media which publish dozens of articles about bloggers fired by Google or Delta Airlines. Here is a recent selection.

In almost all the cases where a blogger lost his job, which represents a very small number, either the blogger didn’t comply with the policies of his company, or he criticized it or his management.

On the contrary, I strongly think that having a blog is an asset, and even an excellent self-promotion tool. If your content is interesting and informative, you might be contacted by a competitor or a headhunter. But if you use your blog to heavily criticize your company or your competitors’ products, you’re in for some nasty surprise.
